Not "harmless" at all. In the SouthEast they EAT lawns. BIG time. A sizeable portion of your lawn can turn into basically a dirt patch! Which is just them doing their bug thing trying to get on in life I know, but personally I would consider them killing my lawn (if I were to let them get the chance) very "harmful" considering what sod costs. If bugs don't bother me I don't bother them, but I draw the line at letting the little bastids kill my lawn! [img]wink.gif[/img]

How about this for fugly. The mole cricket. It's like two parts of different bugs joined in one unholy joke that only God understands.

It's like the back end of a cricket was joined with the front end of a termite....and lobster claws added just for laughs.
These get to be 2 to 2 and 1/2 inches long.

holy shit. that thing just looks like it'd leave a big goopy smear when smashed.

which is exactly what I'd probably do if I ever saw one. I generally don't mind bugs, but there are certain ones that make me twitch a little inside and reach for a rolled up newspaper.

Newspaper wouldn't kill a mole cricket - them f'ers are tough and strong! You really have to stomp the sh!t out of them! Unfortunately they are a big problem here in the SouthEast. Like moles (hence that part of their name) they burrow under the ground and eat the roots of the grass. Those little bastards will eat/kill your lawn so fast it's ridiculous! I hate them little f'ers! [img]graemlins/grrr.gif[/img]

gah..so it's something that needs to be killed with a shoe. or a hammer. I hate bugs like that..you whack them and they just don't die. or worse, you whack them, think they're dead, and then see them crawling across the floor a few minutes later (leaving a trail of guts behind them).
